About the band.
The Howard Kennedy house band “Take It To The Bridge” was formed almost by accident in 2011. We saw news reports about a thing called Law Rocks and discovered that other lawyers, inspired by the idea that music could be used to raise funds for great causes, were suddenly having a lot more fun than we were.
Well that couldn’t last.
The only options were miss out or join in so we jumped in with both feet and we have been having a blast ever since.
Our first performance was in June 2012 at the 100 Club in London following in the footsteps of bands such as the Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols. The nostalgia and ethos of live music seems to seep out of the walls and it has always been a privilege to play in one of the most iconic venues in London with such a history of fantastic music behind it.
More performances followed in London and then beyond as the Law Rocks organisation went global, including events alongside the annual migration of the International Bar Association conference.
As the IBA has moved so Law Rocks and the bands have followed. In 2015 we were invited to take part in one such event so Take It To The Bridge took to the road on its inaugural European tour, of Vienna (although surprisingly no one played a waltz, or any Ultravox tracks).
Seven years on from its formation the band has been through more line up changes than the Sugarbabes but the core team and the initial drive that has made the whole Law Rocks process work still remain – it has to be fun, it has to be good and it has to raise money.
We offer straightforward advice for ambitious clients. Helping them get from where they are to where they want to be – as smoothly as possible.
Say hello to our talented crew.
The best drummer in Law Rocks (in our humble opinion). If there is a groove he will find it and rock it for everything it is worth. Somehow that fits with private client work which involves a lot of will writing, so maybe setting your pulse racing is related.
and Dispute Resolution
Formerly a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra Julia brings a remarkable degree of sophistication and a huge musical talent to the band – smooth, elegant, jazzy and bluesy in equal measures, and her saxophone playing is fantastic too. Julia now works in dispute resolution so litigators beware.
Backing vocals, lead vocals, bass, violin and just about any other instrument you care to name. Jess is also a family lawyer where such adaptability is a huge advantage. She and Julia will be arriving in Washington via a road trip from New Orleans in a convertible. We are still trying to work out which one is Thelma and which one is Louise.
and Real Estate
Lead guitar and the man chiefly to blame. Peter started the band and has somehow kept it together ever since, through numerous line up changes and arguments over whether we are going to play Metallica or Meatloaf – and occasionally coming up with ways of playing both. Peter also does real estate dealing with the cases that make others run away in fear. The more complex the problem the happier he is, which may explain why he is enjoying being in the band so much.
Our lead singer and vocal star, Anika left Howard Kennedy a couple of years ago but with a voice like that we were never going to let her go entirely so she has been sub-contracted back to remain with the band. She has the voice of an angel, although perhaps one that has drunk a little too much tequila.
